Applications for next year’s Bursary Scheme will open in January 2013.

After over 30 applications and a round of auditions, Marina Eichberg (18, from Beit Jala), Sasha Khoury (16, from Ramallah), Sama Tarazi (15, from Beit Hanina), and Naji Alali Esrawee (14, from Jenin) were chosen to travel to the UK in August 2012 to participate in the Bursary Scheme, based around a residential music course with young British musicians, followed by three days in London playing with Choir of London musicians, and ending with a public showcase concert at the Mosaic Rooms, Earls Court.

Choir of London Bursary Scheme

The objectives of the Scheme are:

- to complement the work of Palestine’s music schools by offering students opportunities for development that are not currently available in the Palestinian Territories;

- to provide a real opportunity for interaction with musicians in Britain through placements on residential music courses;

- to introduce advanced music students to London’s musical life through an intensive London residency

- to support and enhance the work of the Choir of London in Palestine by strengthening connections between young Palestinian musicians and the musicians of the Choir of London

Made possible by generous funding from the British Council, the Choir of London’s Bursary Scheme for young Palestinian musicians, piloted successfully in summer 2008, has been reinstated and ran this summer from 9-23 August.
