The centrepiece of the Choir of London’s 2009 visit to the Palestinian Territories was a touring production of Puccini’s opera La Bohème, directed by Poppy Burton-Morgan. Featuring some of the UK’s finest young operatic singers and orchestral musicians, three performances were given in Ramallah (Al Kasaba theatre), Jerusalem (Al Hakawati Palestinian National Theatre) and Nablus (An-Najah University - the first performance of an opera in Nablus).

Sung in the original Italian, the production was brought to life for Palestinian audiences with a specially-written, integrated narration in Arabic by Palestinian writer Raja Shehadeh, performed by actor Saleh Bakri. A children’s chorus from Al Kamandjati music school in Ramallah joined the production after a series of workshops with singers from the Choir of London.
